Kym Schramm

Kym Schramm has worked in park management for 46 years, 29 of those years with Parks Victoria. He holds a Diploma of Applied Science, Bachelor Degree in Park Management, and a Certificate IV in Business Management. Over his extensive career, Kym has experienced all facets of park management in many different environments having begun as a Maintenance Worker with the South Australian Parks and Wildlife Service, worked for as a Ranger with the Tasmanian Parks Service, and worked his way up through Parks Victoria to be an Area Chief Ranger when he retired in 2023. The last 22 years of his career was spent in the Mallee (North West District), during which time he managed all of its parks and reserves at different times. Notable achievements during his career include significant involvement in the semi-arid woodland restoration program including instigating heightened protection of highly culturally sensitive sites, managing the over-abundant native animal (Kangaroo) program, increasing the involvement of the Sporting Shooters Association of Australia in the removal of feral goats from parks, eradication of cattle from Murray River islands, negotiating the removal of illegal structures from within parks estate, and managing the first Koala relocation program at Mount Eccles NP. Kym is a people-orientated manager recognising staff, volunteers, partners and stakeholders are the foundation of successful park management.
