Membership of the Victorian Protected Areas Council is open to anyone who supports the Council’s purpose and vision and:

  1. Is a retired, former or current employee of a Victorian public land protected area management organisation with experience in protected area management (e.g. planning, on-ground management, program and/or project planning and delivery, or measurement and evaluation of management effectiveness)*; or
  2. Can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the Committee a depth of knowledge and experience in Victorian public land protected area management (e.g. persons who have worked in relevant areas of research or academia, public land policy, or in managing environmental or heritage values in public land protected areas)**

If you would like to join the Victorian Protected Areas Council, please fill in the membership form. You will be asked to agree to abide by the Council’s Constitution, Terms of Reference, and Conflict of Interest, Privacy and Confidentiality Guideline. You will also be asked whether you would like to share your name, email address and phone number with other members (but not outside the membership); sharing is optional.

Your application will be considered at the committee’s next monthly meeting.  If your application is accepted, you will be notified by email and asked to pay a one-off joining fee of $25 and an annual membership fee of $25.

* Criterion 1 encompasses people who work or have worked for an organisation with a statutory responsibility as the designated land manager of one or more protected areas of public land and have direct experience in managing those protected areas. In Victoria, protected area management organisations often also have other functions (e.g. managing non-protected areas) and some of their employees do not work in protected area management.

** Criterion 2 enables a wide range of other people who have knowledge and experience in one or more aspects of the management of public land protected areas in Victoria, or the values they contain, to be admitted as members.
