Sean (Mick) Keenan
Mick commenced with the National Parks Service at Wilsons Promontory National Park in 1981 as a Construction and Maintenance (C&M) worker on the Track Crew. After 6 months, he accepted a position as a Park Assistant. Mick’s first ranger position was at the Brisbane Ranges. From there he moved to Yellingbo State Nature Reserve, Snowy River National Park and then back to Wilsons Prom. His final years were in the North East – Mt Buffalo and the Alpine National Park. He retired in 2022 as one of the Ranger Team Leaders at Mt Beauty.
Over his career, Mick got involved in all aspects of protected area management, including interpretation, fire, emergency management, managing threatened species, pest plant and animal control and fire.
The highlights of Micks’s 40-year career include the variety of work, attending International Ranger Federation congresses, working with other caring and committed parks staff (the Parkie family) congresses and developing lifelong friendships at home and abroad.
